Frequently Asked Questions:
Question: What do you mean by a traditional Corset?
Answer: These are simply corsets that are made using traditional methods.
Question: What materials do you use?
Answer: Depending on the style of corset you want, these can use between one and four layers of fabric. All components are high quality (steel boning, busks, eyelets, cotton corsetry laces), not plastic. No corset is truly a traditional corset without these materials and components.
Question: I saw this top in a high street store called a corset but it didn’t pull my waist in. What was I doing wrong?
Answer: Absolutely nothing. It was not a real corset, big clothing stores like to sell garments that are often just casual tops described as corsets. Traditional corsets can bring your waist in by 2 to 4 inches, and these have to be made from a specialist fabric that does not stretch. If a “corset” stretches, it isn’t a corset.
Question: Someone told me that corsets are great for dieting. Is this true?
Answer: No. Some people will tell you “yes” but I just can’t see it myself. Corsets do not magically pinch pounds off you. What they do is pull in your waist, giving the illusion of a smaller dress size, but it will all re-appear once you take it off. They do however push your stomach in, and this may make you feel as though you are fuller, faster. But please, please, if you are trying to lose weight, talk to your Doctor or Dietician.
Question: Why does it take so long for my order to be sent?
Answer: Every garment I make is completed by hand and by myself. Nothing is sent to outworkers or other countries to be made because this way, I am in control of every aspect, from design to finish. Therefore it could take me between 4 and 7 days to complete your one of a kind corset.
Question: Why does it take so long for my garment to be made?
Answer: As long as I receive accurate measurements from yourself, you should be receiving a one-of-a-kind garment that fits perfectly within 7 days. I make garments in the order I receive them so please be patient, I try my best to send each garment out within a week, but sometimes, depending on suppliers and waiting lists, it can take up to 2 weeks to arrive to you. Please remember, all garments are made by myself to the highest of standards.
Question: But I want to buy something for my girlfriend and it’s her birthday next week.
Answer: Feel free to phone me with these kinds of queries. If you need a rush on an order, call me, depending on how busy I am, you may be in luck and I can squeeze you in (corset pun).
Question: What if I receive my garment and it doesn’t fit?
Answer: I can guarantee that all garments are made to the exact specification and measurements that were given. If there is a problem contact me immediately as it may be possible to correct it.
Question: Ok, so why do your garments and corsets cost more than the ones on the high street?
Answer: My garments are individually made garments; all made to measure, they are stylish and comfortable and fit perfectly. My corsets are bespoke, as no two women (and no two designs) are the same. You are buying a one-of-a-kind garment that will last for years to come.
Question: I live outside of the UK, but really want to buy a corset from you, will you ship to my country?
Answer: Yes! Apricot Couture will ship to anywhere in the world!
